The leader of Ukraine's ultranationalist Right Sector movement has called on his fighters to continue protests and political actions across Ukraine until those responsible in the deadly shootout in the Ukrainian town of Mukachevo are arrested and the country’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov steps down.
“Our brothers in arms have been acting in self-defense,” the leader of Ukraine's Right Sector ultranationalist movement Dmytro Yarosh wrote on his page in Facebook.
“We are calling to continue enduring political actions until those who are responsible, in the eyes of the Right Sector, in the deadly shootout [in Mukachevo] (and those are Rada deputy, Mikhail Lanyo and Kiev's special representative for humanitarian issues Viktor Medvedchuk) are arrested and the whole leadership of the law enforcement establishment of the Zakarpatska region and the country’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov resign,” he added.

Far Right Violence Rages in Western Ukraine

http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/far-right-violence-rages-in-western-ukraine/525455.html
At least two people were killed Saturday in a gun and grenade attack in the city of Mukachevo involving the country’s notorious nationalist militia Right Sector.
Police had surrounded some gunmen in a wooded area of the city and were trying to negotiate their peaceful surrender, a statement from the regional prosecutor’s office said. But details of the violence remained confused.
The prosecutor’s statement said about 20 armed people bearing Right Sector insignia surfaced in the early afternoon and called for a meeting with local residents at a cafe. They then began shooting, the statement said.
Ukrainian news reports earlier said that the violence broke out at a sports facility reportedly controlled by a national parliament member from a faction opposed to the Right Sector. It wasn’t clear whether the cafe referred to by the prosecutor’s statement was part of that facility.
The sports complex is connected to a national parliament member from a faction strongly opposed to the Right Sector, said Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the Interior Ministry.
A Right Sector statement reported by Ukrainian news media said two of the militia’s members had been killed. But Gerashchenko said three were killed and that three policemen and four civilians were wounded. He also said the attackers destroyed two police cars with grenade launchers.
The Right Sector statement said its members were attacked by “bandits” connected to Mikhail Lano, who reportedly controlled the sports facility, which local media said includes a gym and swimming pool.
Reacting to the news Saturday, Konstantin Dolgov, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special representative on human rights, tweeted: “The Right Sector has shown its gangster face again [now] in Mukachevo. People in Kiev still can’t get rid of neo-Nazis and are trying to co-opt it instead, but soon it will be too late.”
Meanwhile, officials in Kiev were quick to bite back, pointing the finger at Moscow. “I don’t exclude the presence of Russian traces in the incident … as this region is in the zone of interest for Russian special services,” Irina Friz, a member of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s bloc, said on Facebook.
Following the incident, Poroshenko ordered the disarmament of the Right Sector, but the group vowed to resist, and to launch protests.
Up to 100 Right Sector protesters turned out Sunday in Kharkiv to rally on behalf of the group, Interfax reported from the scene.
Similar rallies were launched in Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and Kiev, where protesters flocked to the presidential administration building.
The Right Sector played a prominent role in the anti-government protests that led to the ouster of formerly pro-Kremlin President Viktor Yanukovych, ultimately bringing pro-Western leaders into power in Ukraine. Right Sector activists were considered at the time to be some of the most radical and yet most meticulously organized of the protesters.
Following the uprising, the organization was transformed into a political party, but held tight to some of its more militant roots. Frequent efforts by the new Ukrainian government to persuade the group to disarm have been unsuccessful.
In November 2014, Russia’s Supreme Court declared the organization extremist and banned its activities in the country. Russian officials have often cited the Right Sector as evidence of a looming neo-Nazi threat in Ukraine.
The Right Sector has proven largely unpopular among Ukrainian voters, having garnered only 1.8 percent of the national vote in the 2014 parliamentary elections. The organization’s leader Dmytro Yarosh was elected in one of the 225 electoral districts.
Volunteer battalions associated with the Right Sector have been fighting alongside Ukrainian government forces against pro-Russian separatists in the country’s turbulent east. Its most infamous battalion, the Azov battalion, is based in the southeastern port of Mariupol and is known for its members’ militant nationalism.

Right Sector fighters have been given shoot-to-kill orders in case they are stormed by police and National Guard troops, a Ukrainian Inter television correspondent who is on location said on Sunday night.
The apparent orders follow Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh's arrival in Mukachevo, following a deadly standoff which killed up to three and injured nearly a dozen including civilians in a conflict alleged to be over cigarette smuggling. Right Sector fighters have also been withdrawn from the Donbass, where they have been fighting alongside the Ukrainian military, by Yarosh's orders, an apparent battalion leader told Ukrainian Hromadske television.

Following the deadly standoff in Western Ukraine's Mukachevo, Right Sector's spokesman threatened to bring fighters to Kiev while the country's security forces say that they do not intend to negotiate.
Right Sector spokesman Artyom Skoropadskyi said that "if necessary," the organization would bring fighters to Ukraine's capital if the standoff continues.
The conflict between Ukraine's internal ministry and the nationalist Right Sector group began on Saturday after a conflict around cigarette smuggling turned into a deadly shootout with nearly a dozen wounded, including civilians. Right Sector and Ukraine's Interior Ministry accuse each other of firing the first shots. Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) said that it will not negotiate with the group.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will gather a War Cabinet on July 13 following the shootout in the western Mukachevo, Ukrainian Presidential Press Secretary Svyatoslav Tsegolko said Monday.
KIEV (Sputnik) — Earlier on Saturday, the Right Sector began protests in several Ukrainian cities, including Kiev and Lviv after the movement members exchanged fire with police in the Ukrainian southwestern city of Mukachevo.
"The events in Mukachevo will be the main theme of a War Cabinet, which the president will hold on Monday. Let me remind you that the War Cabinet is a working body of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine," Tsegolko wrote in his official account on Facebook.
At least three people died and about 10 were injured as a result of the shootout, according to the Ukrainian security forces estimates.

Re: Pravy Sektor - Mukatchevo

KIEV, Ukraine — In the worst breach yet between Ukrainian authorities and one of the pro-government right-wing paramilitary groups, at least seven people were wounded in a gun battle over the weekend in usually peaceful western Ukraine.
The fighting broke out in the town of Mukachevo, near the borders with Poland and Slovakia, both members of the European Union. Members of the paramilitary group, Right Sector, were videotaped Saturday afternoon firing at police officers from a belt-fed machine gun mounted on a pickup truck as they drove along a street.

Re: Pravy Sektor - Mukatchevo
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is scared of the ultra-nationalist group Right Sector and as the recent events in Mukacheve showed he can’t even control the radicals’ activity in the country, said Mark Galeotti, the professor of Global Affairs at New York University.
The Ukrainian authorities have a hard choice to make — either yield to the pressure from the radicals, thus allowing them to gain even more influence across the country, or show decisiveness, investigate the shooting incident and demonstrate that the current government still has a firm grip on the country, Galeotti said.
